Cherry Blossom Roots, Streetwear Future: Washington Spirit and Dead Dirt Link Up for D.C. Rooted Capsule

The Washington Spirit just dropped a capsule that goes way deeper than game-day merch.

Teaming up with Dead Dirt, the creative-led sports brand founded by DMV-born artist Domo Wells, the Spirit’s new 2025 Cherry Blossom Capsule is a bold tribute to D.C.’s golden era—late ’90s and early 2000s streetwear, go-go music, and a whole lot of city pride. It’s more than a nod to springtime cherry blossoms. It’s a love letter to the Polo and Rugby craze that once defined D.C. and PG County style—and a reimagining of what “team merch” can look like in women’s sports.

At the heart of the collection is a deep cultural reference. In the early 2000s, Ralph Lauren’s Polo and Rugby lines weren’t just clothes in D.C.—they were a code. The collars, the crests, the layered prep meets street energy—was a movement in itself. Domo took that influence and fused it with classic soccer aesthetics to build something new. Elevated. Intentional. A statement piece for the Spirit’s new era.

The campaign, shot inside a vintage locker room, channels the sacred space of preparation—a quiet nod to how players get ready, but also how creatives like Domo have been ready to disrupt the team merch space. The editorial features DMV-raised, L.A.-based talents like Lola Monroe, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Elise Peterson, and Modi Oyewole, all styled in custom Dead Dirt pieces that blend legacy with the visual future of women’s soccer.

“This isn’t just merch—it’s an extension of the team’s identity and the history of the city they represent,” says Wells. “The locker room setting is intentional. Aligning with the players’ sacred space of preparation… Women’s sports is having its moment, and we’re here to shape the visual language of that future in soccer.”

As women’s pro sports continue to rise—approaching a projected $1B in revenue—this capsule breaks from the expected. While most team merch still plays it safe, this collection brings something that hasn’t been seen before in U.S. women’s soccer: gear that looks like it belongs on the runway and on the terrace.

The Cherry Blossom Capsule is not just for fans—it’s for the culture. It reflects the style codes of a city that has long set trends and gives women’s sports the kind of fashion-forward, culturally embedded identity that’s long overdue.

Limited quantities will be available to ticket holders starting April 14, ahead of the Spirit’s home game on April 26.
