PITCHSIDE FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022: ARGENTINA V MEXICO
With Argentina shockingly misfiring in the their opening match vs the Saudi’s, Mexico hoped to take advantage of what seemed like a side lacking confidence. Hope is one thing, Messi is another.
Argentina has long been Mexico’s bogey team. El Tri were winless in their last 10 encounters including being knocked out by their rivals at the World Cup in 2006 and 2010. Unfortunately for them, 2022 would be more of the same. The match just seemed inevitable. The Mexicans fought valiantly but eventually the GOAT would find two feet of space to hit a trademark daisy-cutter past Memo Ochoa. Twenty minutes later, Enzo Fernandez would nail a gorgeous finesse shot any FIFA gamer would be proud of. 2-0 proved enough to finish off El Tri and set Argentina back on track.
